Parish Council - Suffolk
This year Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, the UK enjoyed a four day bank holiday, with the synchronised Beacon lighting taking place on the evening of Thursday 2nd June, with many events organised over the four days.
Easton Parish Council hosted a beacon lighting event and became part of the nationwide beacon celebration. All the residents in Easton were invited to a complimentary Hog Roast at the village hall, followed by the lighting of beacon on the village green. Our MP, Dr Dan Poulter accepted the invitation to light the beacon and a toast of prosecco and a ‘royal’ cup cake was served.
The following day a Tea Party was held at Easton Cricket Club, it was hoped that organising these two events there would be something for everyone. There were many happy smiles and laughter and everyone's good spirits made both events very successful. It was lovely to see so many people including new residents to the village, joining to celebrate this special and momentous historic occasion.
Easton Parish Council would like to thank all those that came, helped and made these events so memorable. Thank you for all the photographs that have kindly been provided, here are some of them.

The WW1 Centenary Beacon Event organised by Easton Parish Council, led nationally by the Queens Paegent Master Bruno Peeks, took place on Sunday 11th November 2018. Before the Beacon lighting ceremony which synchronised across the country at 7pm, the community came together at a complimentary Hog Roast in the Village Hall. There was an exhibition giving the history of the men that were involved in WW1, and the fallen from Easton which Brian Boon provided following extensive research. Over 80 people attended, and following the Hog Roast, gathered at the Beacon, where those who fought and died during WW1 were remembered, the names of the fallen from Easton were read out, and Rev. G. Hedger lit the Beacon. The Church Bells then rang to commemorate the celebration of Amistice 100 years ago. Easton Parish Council organised and hosted the Queens 90th Birthday Beacon event on 21st April 2016. The Beacon Project, by agreement with The Royal Household, formed an important part of The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations.
The Parish Council purchased an official beacon and equipment, so that the village could join and synchronise with all the other Parishes and beacons across the U.K. The Parish Council hosted a complimentary Hog Roast, and birthday buns accompanied by a glass of Prosecco, the Village Hall committee ran a bar for the evening. Following the Hog Roast everyone gathered on the village green accompanied by the Church Bells, the National Anthem was sung and a personal message from the Prince of Wales was given by MP Dr Dan Poulter, who then lit the Beacon and everyone sang Happy Birthday. Just over one hundred people from the village attended the event and the evening resulted in a very happy community event.
